Not Reluctant to Utter His Name
As this Fourth of July approaches, my heart is especially stirred and grateful as I reflect on the meaning of and reason for this American holiday and the freedom it represents to every citizen of this great land.
As American citizens we are blessed from the foundation of our nation with many God-given freedoms. Yes, I believe we need to be reminded that our country as well as our education system was founded on godly principles, even on a pursuit of God Himself.
I would never have imagined that someone would infringe on my freedom of speech in expressing myself in congratulations to my graduating son in his senior ad. Shockingly, this happened this year.
At the end of January, God in His omniscience revealed that His Name, any reference to His Son Jesus, or any scripture from His Bible, including even the words “holy” or “prayers” were being eliminated from 25 ads purchased by parents to be placed in the 2007 Liberty High School Yearbook.
I was one of those parents whose ad was censored because “It might offend some people.” I learned and experienced in a very real way how easily someone could try to compromise and violate my freedom to express the core of who I am as a parent and believer in God and my Lord Jesus Christ, violating my First and 14th Amendment rights.
I was hurt, and knew a stand for these freedoms needed to be taken. After months of confronting this issue, thankfully the decision was made to restore the ads to their original content. However, after receiving our yearbooks, although some of the ads were changed, not all of them were.
Let us never forget the perseverance and the price that was paid by our founding fathers so that all future citizens could partake of the costly gift of freedom. Freedom is truly a gift never to be taken for granted and forever to be appreciated, upheld and fought for.
After all, freedom is God’s idea, and the same God, our Creator, Who gives each of us life and breath, Who is indeed the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End, is here to stay, no matter who or what would ever dare to try to obliterate His Name.
I’ve read the end of the Book, God’s holy, everlasting word, the Bible, and we’re assured of the fact that God’s presence is with man throughout all generations. He has the final word and in His goodness desires to grant to “whosoever will” His victory and true freedom found only in His Name! May God continue to bless America!
